SonoWand Invite is a patient image guidance system that enables precise navigation in the brain during surgery. The system is based on real time ultrasound images, and not only MR or CT scans taken prior to the operation.
At SONOWAND our main goal is to improve quality of life for patients. With SonoWand Invite we provide the surgeon with excellent real-time images during surgery, allowing him/her to perform a better and more precise treatment. The system provides high accuracy and ensures image clarity throughout the entire operating procedure, giving the surgeon the advantage of having the most recent and accurate information available when making decisions.
Modern developments in ultrasound technology as well as its integration with neuronavigation contribute to make this powerful imaging modality a growing preference of leading neurosurgeons.
Early resection of low grade brain tumor using Sonowand Invite intra-operative imaging nearly doubled the years of living after treatment.
A newly published study in JAMA and presented at The European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) in Bratislava 2012, shows that early resection of Low Grade Gliomas nearly doubled median survival for the patients operated with the 3D ultrasound based intra-operative imaging system Sonowand Invite.
For hospital favoring biopsy and watchful waiting the median survival was 5,9 years while for the hospital favoring early resection median survival rate was not reached! Expected 5 year survival rate is 60% for the hospital favoring biopsy and watchful waiting vs. 72% for the hospital favoring early resection while 7 years survival rate is 44% vs. 68% respectively.
For grade II astrocytomas a nearly double survival rate was demonstrated; 5.6 years vs. 9.7 years for hospital favoring biopsy vs. hospital favoring early resection!
