The SonoWand® System is the first intraoperative imaging system with a tight integration of high quality 3D ultrasound and neuronavigation. The intraoperative ultrasound indicates more accurately the position of the surgeon’s instruments and guides him/her safely inside the brain to the lesion. The System allows, for example, the surgeon to follow the progression of resection and to easily identify, localize and remove residual tumor.
SonoWand® is particularly useful during removal of malignant brain tumors such as low-grade astrocytomas, anaplastic astrocytomas, glioblastomas and metastasis.
SonoWand® is also well suited for treating a broad range of other brain lesions including cavernous hemangiomas (cavernomas), cysts, abscesses and skull base meningiomas. Current research activity is also being conducted in order to document its clinical value in vascular brain surgery including arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and aneurysms.
